26 Weeks

Glucose test time!

Technically I had my glucose test a week early since the Thanksgiving holidays were booked at my Ob, and since I still haven’t heard anything back I’m guessing I passed, or else I’ll hear from them next week. Either way- it won’t affect this Thanksgiving’s meal! Whew. When I was pregnant with Cory I had to wait the hour in the doctor’s office and it was so nice this time to take that drink home and go in to the apt. an hour later. Although I did wonder- what if I was driving to my apt. and did have some sort of sugar attack? Who’s liable at that point? I know, the weird things I think about.

Alas, I made it to the apt just fine and everything still looks good for baby. I’m measuring 2 weeks and a few days over, but am super happy with my weight gain. I tend to gain more at the end so I think I’ll be right around 30 lbs. again, just going to be super mindful during the holidays. (I do not mean Thanksgiving and Christmas day-duh!).

We got a free 4D ultrasound from Gwinnett Tech…and I totally looked into their DMS program while I was there. They just got their accreditation for sonography and being that they’re closer than Rome or Columbus it’s an option I’ll look in to. (Only 3 schools in Ga offer this program now). I can’t go 100% into school mode while I’m in baby mode, but I did apply to the school and transferred my transcripts, and will find out more info at their orientation session. That’s about as much attention as I can give it right now. The 4D was amazing though- it was so neat to see our little boy so clearly! The tech kept saying, “Oh look- he’s kicking your cervix! Right there and there again!” I was like, “I know….I don’t have to look!” This baby, for real, loves to kick down and I’ll do just about anything to get him off my bladder and cervix. The other night I hoisted my big self upside-down off the couch to try and get him more up, and thought I was going to pass out. And it didn’t work. I can say I’ll never know what it feels like to have a baby kick me in the ribs, mine are all waaaay low, but I don’t dig the cervix kicks either.

Look at those sweet lips and nose already!

Symptoms/Cravings- Pregnancy insomnia is here to stay. I was so enjoying sleeping at night too, but knew my time was coming. I guess 26 weeks is it for me- do you remember when yours started? No one tells you with your first that you won’t sleep while you’re pregnant, they just tell you that about having a newborn. Let’s see…14 weeks of non-consecutive sleep (until I reach 40 weeks), plus the weeks of actually having a newborn adds up to….yeah, I’m not adding that up. A whole lot. Sometimes it’s the baby kicking that wakes me, sometimes I’ll have to get up to pee and that wakes the baby who promptly starts the salsa, and sometimes I’m just awake. I dread flipping over at night because that wakes him too and then I have to wait out however long he wants to dance in there. Wah wah, I know, I chose to get pregnant, and I would never take this back, but I miss sleep all the same. I truly enjoy the daytime kicks as I know this will be our last baby so it’s the last time I’ll be pregnant & feeling this, but I’m a girl that loves her sleep too.

I keep saying I have no cravings and then realized I do- it’s just not a food one so I haven’t paid it much attention. Iced coffee is my new best friend and no matter the weather, I’m craving one. I could probably drink 4 a day (I don’t), they are soooo good right now. Heath went to get us coffee one freezing Saturday morning and the lady ringing him up asked who was crazy enough to want it iced in the cold weather, and he smartly said, “My pregnant wife.” She laughed and said it made total sense then.
While checking out at Publix this week there was an older gentlemen who was bagging our groceries and kept eyeing my belly. I nudged Heath and told him to prepare for the question, as I am done with hearing how big my stomach is. The man did point at me and said, “Any time now, eh?” Heath TOTALLY tried to walk away without even acknowledging the comment & the confrontation but the man just asked again, louder, “When are you due?” Heath STILL tried to pretend like he didn’t hear him and was busy with the groceries so I sweetly said, “Honey…that man has a question for you.” So the man asked again, and Heath (who I know wanted to run), said quietly, “She’s due in February.” The man looks shocked and asks again, “February?” Heath put his hand on the man’s shoulder and got really close to him and said slowly, “Yes, and isn’t it great news?” Ha ha! That did register something in this man’s mind to can it and reply, “Oh yes…yes it is, um, congratulations.” We walked away and I gave him such crap for trying to ignore the man! Heath hates arguing/confrontation of any kind but it was hilarious to see the whole exchange.

I didn’t take any 26 week pics since we just had our family session done, and I’m so happy with the way they turned out! Anna did a great job and was super reasonable on her price. Love them!

I kind of can’t believe my next post will be at 30 weeks- that seems too near the end. I’m so thankful we have the holidays coming up to keep my mind busy and off baby all the time! I’ve got my pumpkin pies & pumpkin bread baked already and I’ll make my other dishes tomorrow before heading to Grandma’s.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, FRIENDS!!!

The Dollar Shave Club

The name sounds a little questionable, doesn’t it?

I kept seeing the ad on Facebook and finally took a minute to read more about it. The Dollar Shave Club has 3 options for razors: a 2-blade, 4-blade, and 6-blade razor, handle included, that ships to your door every month. Since I go to the grocery store weekly I really didn’t see why this would be so awesome, as I’m already making Kroger runs. Heath was the one to point out though that by the time he needed a new razor and it took me a few weeks to remember to write it down & pick one up (oops), he’d be appreciative if it would ship to our house every month just so he’d always have a fresh razor.

You aren’t locked into a year-long contract and can cancel at any moment you’re not satisfied so we signed up! For $6 a month, Heath has 4 razors shipped directly to him- that’s a razor a week! He doesn’t even use a razor a week so we’re stocking up over here while these razors keep coming in! When we got his first box I watched him shave and waited for some magical moment to happen, and he was like, “cool.” I asked if he felt like it was a closer shave and he said he didn’t think it was any better or any worse than what I normally purchased, but it was def way cheaper, and I never kept up with making sure he had stock in razors before. A friend even made the suggestion of buying an extra handle for myself and using some of the razors, so I did! You know mine will really last too with this preggo belly…..

We just got our reminder email that our second box was about to ship, and Heath is still on razor #2 out of 4. We’re happy customers so now I feel like I can recommend this to others!

If you click our link: http://www.dollarshaveclub.com/heathmcever, we get a $5 referral and you can share your link with others to get your $5 referral. You can change your plan, mailing address, or billing info anytime.

I’m thinking other men in my life might get this as a Christmas present…!!!

Happy shaving!

Baby Blessings

We’ve just been crazy blessed with friends and family giving us baby things over these past few months, and it’s so heartwarming to know he’s loved & anticipated so much already! For me, it was definitely nerve-wracking to make that leap from a family of 4, to a family of 5. Everything seems to need to be increased with 5- a bigger house, car, grocery bills- and all of the many other details I’m forgetting at the moment. It was like, should we…should we not…can we afford this, are we crazy…? Somewhere I heard someone say that it’s not about if you can afford it, it’s how many children you want sitting around your dinner table. That sealed the deal for me.

It’s been awesome to see God work in those small details over the past few months too. How easy it is to forget to ask for supplication for the small things! Most of it I try to take on myself, and seeing Him provide has really given me that reminder that I am not in control. Just wanted to share with you how we’ve been blessed lately!

Mrs. Deborah is a dear friend from church that I met on Wednesday nights at the Ladies Bible study, and she also led a small group of us through some Beth Moore studies out of her personal home. We’ve formed a close friendship and I try to meet her weekly for walks in her neighborhood. It’s so nice to have that relationship with her! Someone older & wiser, & trusting that I can talk openly with. I had not told her about our family beach trip in October, or how I had planned to wear my typical bathing suits, & I had no reason to share how surprised I was when said bathing suits didn’t fit the week before we left (good times!). I had shopped some maternity bathing suits but they were outrageous (and ugly), and I couldn’t see spending the money on something I didn’t love and would only wear for a week. Never did I think about praying for maternity bathing suits? Mrs. Deborah and I walked her neighborhood again before our family left for the beach, and she mentioned she was going through a hall closet of hers and had found three maternity bathing suits & a cover up that she bought on sale awhile back- and was I interested, because she didn’t want it just sitting there? They just happened to be my size. God knew.

Natalee is our family photographer whom I’ve loved for years. We hired her for our wedding, looooved her work, and haven’t thought to use anyone else since. She had her 3 babies back to back and asked us what she could pass down to us. I pulled out my “buy before baby comes” list and read her my top item: a monitor. I was secretly wanting one with a camera but wasn’t choosy since we didn’t have one at all, and Natalee was able to pass down a monitor, with 2 camera’s to us.  I was so excited about that!!! We chatted a bit more and I mentioned I was looking for a new changing table cover too, but it wasn’t a big deal since they weren’t expensive. I was so excited about the camera I didn’t know what to think when I got her phone call the next day. Natalee’s Mom creates custom drapes for homes and when moving a bolt of fabric in her shop, happened to find a brand-new changing table cover, still in its plastic. Natalee was so excited to call me and tell me she had that cover for me! God knew & placed that right there for me.

He knows all of the small things I’m thinking about and is providing every step of the way through others. Kasey Duncan was able to pass down over 30 baby clothing items to us, shoes included. My neighbor, Jenifer Frachiseur, had a HUGE garage sale and literally gave me a tummy time mat, 2 baby wraps (I call them baby bookbags b/c that’s what they look like), and 2 HUGE bags of baby toys- all of it for free and much needed. Rachel Marble happened to have 2 exersaucer’s and is graciously letting us borrow 1. Rachel’s also been combing the maternity clothing sales for me and calls me at every deal- she helped me find the maternity leggings I was looking for for $10! Jennifer Duncan sends me every Hip2Save deal and helped me score skinny maternity jeans for $7 each and a car seat canopy- FREE!! Leslie Goodroe is providing blue hangers for sweet baby boy’s nursery. Pam Shepherd literally clothed me through the beginning stages of pregnancy with her preppy elastic-waist shorts from the Loft and has continually let me borrow clothes throughout the months. Thank you Pam, I would not be as cute without your help! Grandma gave us a tub of boy clothing she’s bought on sale & saved over the years- of all sizes! Wal-Mart ran a clearance on bra’s- $3 each. God knows.

My friends are amazing, and we are so appreciative of every one that’s given selflessly. God is so good to us, and we want to give Him all the glory.

22 Weeks

Over halfway there!!

We had our 22-week apt on Wednesday, October 29th, & everything looked great. The heartbeat has slowed from the 160's to the 143, I have awesome blood pressure, my weight gain is right where I had my personal goal set, & I was measuring 24 weeks by fundal height. My doc was quick to reassure me that measuring ahead did not change my due date by one day! It's baby #3, my body has been there, done that, and just being short means my belly is loud and proud. :) They did not do an ultrasound to see how much he weighs, but my pregnancy app says around 1 lb.

If you've read any of my posts lately on Facebook, you know that I've been getting the not-so-nice comments already and I have to say, it's shocking- more so because I expected this much later in the game, not in the 2nd trimester. I know friends tell me to brush it off, but it's hard when strangers freely and negatively comment on your body, and it's all from women?! Ladies- you've had children too, why so quick to forget what it feels like? I don't mean the good-natured teasing from friends/family either, I'm talking about the random people who just speak before thinking. It's hurtful. What makes it even weirder is they're not saying I'm big, the comments are all about my stomach being too big- something I have zero control over. I'm like, that's my uterus....sorry??? The one thing I do enjoy about sharing these comments on social media are the stories I hear back from friends about what mean things strangers have said to them- it helps me feel less alone. At 20ish weeks, I'm still polite, but at 30 weeks I'm sure I'll be less so. I also get the great comments too- thank you for those sweet ones, friends! I hang onto them and remind myself of what you said when I get the bad ones.

Baby boy still needs a name!!! I have no idea what this sweet one will be called. Heath and I just quit talking about it- no worries, I'm sure he'll have one by birth. I know what he won't be named, ha ha, we've ruled out a lot. Pretty awesome to know our Heavenly Father already knows his name, right?

Here's big boy's debut for this month:

Symptoms/Cravings: NO cravings, other than feeling much better than those first 15 weeks. Feeling back to my normal eating (although I do need to watch my sweets intake), but veggie plates have been a consistent meal in our house again. Getting my protein in again for breakfast and focusing on good carbs! I think just with getting bigger, and having less space helps too. I don't feel good after a big meal, or anything heavy. I'd rather eat smaller portions, it doesn't make me feel as slow and sluggish plus helps with those intestinal issues- I hate constipation! I'd rather eat my fruits & veggies and keep things regular, you know? You know.

I'm still enjoying my sleep. I'd say I get up once or twice a night to use the bathroom, but I can almost always fall right back asleep. The baby is kicking all the time, but not the kind that keeps me awake yet. He is low and does kick down frequently, I've tried all kinds of ways to flip him, but he settles right back in position, and proceeds to kick my cervix, it's the weirdest feeling. I am having this nerve pain that starts somewhere in my right hip and goes down my right leg, only at night, but I don't really know much that can be done about that. I brought it up at my apt yesterday, and she said really the only thing they could do is suggest physical therapy. Not doing that, so hoping it won't get worse over time and it'll just be something that disappears after baby boy makes his appearance. In February. Yes- February, strangers.

We did "book" the official date yesterday too, the C-section is scheduled. This baby will come no later than Tuesday, February 24th, 2015. Now that it's almost November it's feeling more real!!! We'll be a family of 5 and I'll have three, beautiful boys!!!

For the love of Football

I'm starting to love football season- never thought I'd say that! I never knew how much I'd enjoy watching my baby play sports, but I do. Cory started out with T-ball for a few years, tried soccer (once!), and then started football at age seven. You could see right off the bat his love for that game, and that's why I love watching him. It's so fun to watch your child do something they love, and watch them practice at it in the backyard, and listen intently to their coach because they want to learn & improve- love, love, love!

We didn't have an awesome experience with the Rec Dept, so we found Galilee Christian Church & they offered Upward Sports. I had never heard of it before, but loved the more laidback approach towards team sports and am very happy we found Upward. Practices are once a week, games are home every Saturday, and the teams are usually 6-8 kids- very small. Upward doesn't assign each player a position either (or they might at a later age), but all the kids rotate throughout the game. So every child gets their chance to be a quarterback, which of course is a big thing to them. It's flag football, not tackle, and they earn stars on their belts for things like good sportsmanship, effort, Scripture memorization, etc. We really, really love it, and I hope we can keep Cory in it until he starts playing for the school.

Game Day! (19 weeks preg)

I was mean and told Easton he couldn't throw dirt, sigh.

My favorite player, #7.

The picture above is Cory and his friend, Parks. Parks is so, so good already! It's really cool to see that in a kid so early, but it just seems effortless to him. Last year Cory played against Parks, and he was so excited to have Parks on his team this year! He said, "We'll win every game!" They did have a great game last Saturday.

There he is in the back running a touchdown! I told him he needs to give me a warning before he does that so I can video tape it. He was like, "Mom....I don't know when I'm going to do that. Just know it'll happen." Ha! He's funny, he'll say things before the game starts like, "I'm gonna go for 2 touchdowns today," or "I think I'll try for an interception today," and then does it every time. I don't know if he's getting lucky or what, but like I said, it's so cool to watch his brains work out there. I guess I'd better love it, seeing as how I have 2 more boys coming up!

I hope he stays with football, but we're proud of him no matter what he chooses. As long as he's happy, Mama's happy too!

Funopolis

Cory made a 100 on his Class Dojo score for a week of school- something he's never done!!! We had to celebrate it big. I waited for an afternoon for Heath to be off work early and we headed to Funopolis, just the two of us! Since I didn't have Easton to keep up with, I got to fully enjoy Cory, and I decided we needed more Mommy-son time in the future, especially with a new baby coming. Since the boys are in such separate stages it really helps me to appreciate them and their little characteristics. We started in the game room and ended the afternoon with a little laser tag!

He looks serious, but that's just his "I'm working" game face. He was soooo funny to watch!

Some guitar hero- thanks to Uncle Daniel for those practice lessons. He thought he was hot stuff.

We are so proud of him and working so hard in school! The boys have such a GREAT big brother to look up to. Keep it up, Cory!

Georgia Game

For Heath's birthday (back in June) he wanted to get tickets to a Georgia game, so he just cashed in on that birthday present. It ended up falling on our anniversary weekend so we're actually getting two date weekends in a row- one for the game, one for our actual anniversary, woot woot! <---- Like that?

I felt like Heath was a little nervous since I was pregnant and I didn't want to make everything all about that- "I have to pee again, I'm tired of walking, it's too hot out here" so I REALLY pumped myself up that day that it was all about Heath and I could totally be the awesome pregnant date, and I was! I was SO, SO thankful for the cold snap we got that weekend- thank you, Jesus!! I was able to wear an oversized shirt with leggings and boots, and brought my cardigan and a hoodie for when it got dark. Like a boss, I ate that stadium food without complaint (hot dog & French fries), and walked from the stadium to the Wendy's off Prince before stopping for a potty break.

I have to say there were perks to the bump! I was stopped by the GBI for bringing in a water bottle, and then dude was like, "Oh you're pregnant.....if you don't say anything, I won't." Thanks Mr. Police Officer! Next was the older couple who had seats next to us, "Oh honey, come sit on these seats, we have extra." Nice.

Guess I should mention more about the game? Ga played Vanderbilt and won 17-44. It was a great game and we had awesome seats! I won't lie, I don't know all the details about football, just the basics, and I could not understand why Heath freaked when Gurley threw a pass, but apparently it was a big deal. He explained it to me and now I understand, so next time Gurley- I'll be ready to cheer!

It was so fun! I had such a good time just hanging out with the hubs. I definitely love event dates, over typical dinner-outs, even if they are fewer and farther between. Goooooooo Dawgs!

It's a boy!!!

We were soooo excited to find out the sex of this baby! I was talking to friends about it and was really torn. I thought it would be so fun to dress a baby girl, but also I feel like they are so much more expensive. I thought it would be so sweet to see Heath with a baby girl, and then I pictured a sassy teenager. I'll miss out on that mother-daughter bond, BUT these 3 boys will forever be brothers and have their own unique bond, and I can look forward to having some sweet daughter-in-law's in the far, far future! Between the boy clothes we already own, boy toys, and the rough-and-tumble way my boys play, I really desired another little boy to add to the mix- and we got one!!!

We went to my doctor apt on Fall Break, and I was so thankful my boys could come to the appointment and really understand it. Cory was Mr. Textbook and pointing out all the body parts, and Easton loved to hear the heartbeat and watch the baby kick & move.

What's funny is Cory asked the sonographer if she was a doctor, and she said no, that she was a sonographer. Cory looked at me and said, "Isn't that what you were going to be too?" That sparked the whole story of what happened and the sonographer had actually heard about what happened at ATC. She said it was terrible because that was a really good program, and warned me (this is like the 8th person now) not to go to a school that's not accredited, for example, Gwinnett Tech. She was also the second person to confirm that it was not the teacher's fault, as she did not retire on a whim. Makes more sense that way, as I never understood why this teacher would interview all of us, accept us, and then decide to retire and cancel the program? Seemed a bit shady, and I'm glad to know she didn't have those intentions. It was something bigger at the school's Health Care & Science level, and I'm sure I'll never really know why it was cancelled. (Maybe so I could have this baby?!?!)

Anyways, I do love to go to those appointments, and picture myself in the scrubs, looking at babies and getting paid to do it. Maybe one day.

Back to the present though- our baby is 100% healthy, & everything looks great! We are feeling incredibly blessed to bring another little boy into our family, and into the world. I love, love, my boys and can't wait for another!

I took a picture of our family of 4 and can't believe it'll soon be 5!!!!!!

Now to pick a name......

Edisto Beach

Typically we vacation in Florida since we go the first week in October. The weather has always been great for us and the beaches are much less crowded. This year, Heath didn’t have a week to take off work so we wanted to go to South Carolina since it was much closer. I didn’t want to spend 6-7 hours of one of our precious days driving when we could be at the beach already!

I found Atwood Vacation Rentals online, selected a beachside condo with a pool available, and we braved a new vacation spot, Edisto Island, Sc. I can be pretty annoying thorough when it comes to reading all the terms & conditions of a contract, so I was surprised when I got my reminder email before we left with a "linen rental" clause I hadn’t seen before. I called because I was sure they meant extra linens….nope, they charged separately for all linens, including bedding (for 3 beds), bath towels/mats/washcloths/dishtowels, etc. I was pretty peeved and considered stripping all the beds here and bringing everything with us, but that sounded annoying too so we went ahead and paid the fee. Upon check-in, they handed us our key and all the linens in a bag that I had to put on the bedding once we got there. What?! This was my vacation- I was not there to make beds people!

Luckily the condo was everything pictured, there were no surprises there, and we headed to the beach our first evening and had a great time. We ate out that first night at a local seafood restaurant and afterwards found a Bi-Lo for our breakfast/lunch groceries.

The next morning we took a walk in our pj’s to check out the amenities offered and found a great playground for the kids, right next to the pool.

Our neighborhood at home doesn’t have a pool so our kids hardly ever get to swim in one and they were all pretty excited about practicing what they learned in swim lessons. I went to the front office to ask about our pool pass while Heath stayed at the playground with the kids. I was SHOCKED when they told me the pool wasn’t included with our condo rental- and at a fee of $14 per person, per day, we could buy one. My pregnant hormones totally got the best of me and I became really upset. I had told the kids we could swim, we had brought our beach and pool gear, I had already paid extra for sheets to sleep on, and now you’re gonna tell me it’ll cost me $56/day to take my family to the friggin’ pool? Who charges to use a condo pool? The lady there didn’t care either, she was very, “that’s the rules and the way the condo owners handle the pool expense.” Awesome. Thank you, cheap condo owners. It wasn’t a very nice way to start the week, and so I just determined we’d have a great time at the beach all week, for free.  Unfortunately, the weather had a different idea in mind.
To make a whiny blog short (ha), it rained all day, every day. We braved it in the mornings, and went out in our shorts and t-shirts, and I sat wrapped in my towel while the kids played. I don’t know if the beaches at Edisto are always full of seashells or if it was just the storms, but there was hardly any sand, you had to walk over hundreds of shells. The boys wouldn’t have sand in their shorts, they had tiny, tiny shells stuck all over them- their hair, their ears, their legs, everywhere. That’s when we discovered there wasn’t a foot shower at any of the beach access entrances…or at the condo.  There was zero way to wash off all the shells/sand/toys, anywhere. The boys sat naked in the car on the way home so they wouldn’t chafe sitting on shells, and immediately had to shower. After showers, lunch, and Easton’s nap, no one felt like sitting out in the rain again and repeating the process.

We did find an ice cream parlor the second night we were there, and that helped brighten things up a bit.

On the next rainy day we decided to drive and find something to do. There were no malls, and we looked at two souvenir shops, and found one of those brochures with activities listed. There was 1 museum, 1 plantation, and a nature trail. The museum was closed, the whole road to the plantation was closed, and we couldn't walk a trail in the rain. I asked Heath just to drive and see what we found. So we drove, and drove, and drove, and it was all nothingness. It was way too out there for me- I need to see a Target, or Cracker Barrel, or I would have even been happy with Wal-Mart if only there was something to look at.

Needless to say, we left earlier than anticipated. It just wasn’t worth sitting in a small condo every day, while it poured outside, with nowhere to really go. With no mall, Starbucks, wifi, or cable, combined with the extra rental fees and weather, Heath and I were done.

Luckily, I think the boys would say they had a great time. They didn't seem to mind the beaches, or that it rained, they enjoyed the movie marathon, and they didn't ask about the pool since it rained so much. I’m not really sure if we’ll vacation next year with a baby, but if we decide to- it’ll definitely be back to Destin for us!
